(LUMBERTON) -- Duke Medical researchers in Lumberton are looking into whether there’s a genetic link for heart disease in Lumbee Indians. For decades, doctors at the Southeastern Regional Medical Center have seen Lumbee patients in their 30’s and 40’s with symptoms of heart disease more common in people in their 70’s.

(RALEIGH) -- The family reports that North Carolina Board of Education Member Kathy Taft has died at WakeMed hospital after suffering a brutal assault Saturday while she stayed at a friend's home in Raleigh. Earlier Tuesday, Raleigh police reported Taft had died and then retracted this announcement.

(GREENSBORO) – The Atlantic Coast Conference’s statistical leaders in total offense and touchdown responsibility and 10 players who earned first-team, second-team or honorable mention All-Conference honors this past season secured spots on the 42-member 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic Football Team, announced Wednesday by Commissioner John Swofford.

(CHARLOTTE) -- The Cato Corporation reported February sales of $80 million, an increase of 7% over sales of $74.7 million for the same period last year. Same-store sales for the month increased 3% over the prior year.
U.S. Farm Equipment Exports Down 23% In 2009 (03/10/2010 11:42 PM)
(MILWAUKEE, WI.) -- U.S. exports of agricultural-related machinery totaled nearly $8 billion in 2009, a 23% percent drop compared to the previous year, with the largest declines in business to Europe and South America. This is according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers.
