Neighborhood Litter

To Whom It May Concern,
As a resident in the Ballantyne Area we are inundated with solicitations from pet sitting to roof repair. Not a day goes by that something is not placed on my mailbox or in the paper box below. Unfortunately many of these solicitations are blown into the yards, sidewalks, and roads. I don’t know about you but I happen to consider this littering.
I’m sure we all want to keep our neighborhoods and city clean. As long as we allow this type of solicitation with no penalty for litter we will have a problem. I am tired of having to cleanup the area near my home of all this trash. While I appreciate that these vendors see this method of advertising cost effective, I continue to see this as littering.
Surely this issue has been addressed before. Even if I placed a no solicitation sign on my paper box ,my neighbor’s flyer’s would still be in my yard and the surrounding area on a daily basis.

Is there a fine in place for these individuals and if not is it possible to establish one? What do other cities do to address this problem?
Thank you for your consideration

Well,  there are a couple of things you can do.  You can swatt a litter bug at http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/LUESA/Solid+Waste/Keep+Mecklenburg+Beautiful/Home.htm
If you see the car littering report them.  Until our community makes a paradigm shift and realizes that it takes the village to save us behavior isn’t going to change.  There are so many entities  taking positive steps that we have to move forward together.  So maybe this is the way to start thoes steps.  Swat a Litter Bug, report them, start changing the behavior.
